VALVE TYPE
Globe Valves
The pressure drop is the point — the standard manual regulating valve.
Linear-motion valve whose disc closes onto a seat across the flow path. The S-shaped path costs pressure drop but gives precise, repeatable throttling — the standard manual regulating valve, and the tightest-shutting multi-turn design.
The envelope
| Size range | DN15–DN600 in the screened envelope |
|---|---|
| Functions | isolation, throttling |
| Seat options | PTFE, METAL |
| Shut-off | Bubble-tight designs available |
| Standards | BS 1873 / API 623 (cast steel); API 602 (forged); ASME B16.34 |
Y-pattern cuts pressure drop 25–40% versus T-pattern and is the power-plant standard for high-pressure steam; angle pattern doubles as an elbow. Bolted bonnet to Class 600; pressure-seal bonnet at Class 900+ and high-temperature steam. Size×class envelope follows Neway bolted + pressure-seal globe ranges.
Where it is used
- Throttling and flow regulation: steam, cooling water, pump bypass
- Small-bore isolation where tight shutoff matters
- Duties that need a controllable pressure drop
Where it stops
- Highest flow resistance of the five types — never chosen for low-drop isolation
- Best suited to smaller sizes; pressure drop rises sharply with bore
- Above 425 °C the body material group moves to chrome-moly steels
