VALVE TYPE
Ball Valves
Quarter-turn, full-bore, the tightest mainstream shutoff.
Quarter-turn valve with a bored ball rotating between two seats. Full-bore, low torque, fast operation, and the best mainstream bubble-tight shutoff — the default modern isolation valve.
The envelope
| Size range | DN15–DN1200 in the screened envelope |
|---|---|
| Functions | isolation |
| Seat options | PTFE, RPTFE, METAL |
| Shut-off | Bubble-tight designs available |
| Standards | ASME B16.34; API 6D for pipeline service; fire-safe designs per API 607 / API 6FA where specified |
Floating ball to DN150 / Class 600; trunnion-mounted from DN150 up, or any size at Class 600+ (mandatory at Class 900+). Pipeline (API 6D), fire-safe, DBB and subsea configurations are all trunnion platforms. Size×class envelope follows Neway published ranges plus delivered anchors (a 20-in Class 2500 trunnion ball is in their delivered record).
Where it is used
- Isolation duty that is operated often or automated
- Pigging lines and anywhere a full, clear bore matters
- Oil, gas and chemical service across the whole class range
Where it stops
- Not a throttling valve — partial opening erodes the seat
- Floating construction gives way to trunnion at DN150 / Class 600, mandatory at Class 900
- Soft seats cap the temperature (PTFE 200 °C / RPTFE 230 °C); metal seats cost tightness
