Nuclear Valves: A Main Steam Relief Isolation Valve Ships for an HPR1000 Unit

A main steam relief isolation valve developed jointly by a Chinese utility's engineering arm and a Dalian valve maker has shipped to an HPR1000 unit, with design figures of 8.9 MPa and 316 °C.

Lead

A main steam relief isolation valve for the HPR1000 reactor design has shipped to a Chinese nuclear power unit, according to Chinese industry and regional press. The valve was developed jointly by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd (CNPEC) and Dalian Dagao Valve Co. (大连大高阀门股份有限公司).

The two reports describe it as the first unit of its type developed in China with independent intellectual property.

Facts

What the valve does. It sits in the steam atmospheric relief system and carries residual-heat removal, overpressure protection and system isolation. (Source: China Industry News (中国工业新闻网), 2026-08-28.)

Who developed it. CNPEC and Dalian Dagao Valve Co. formed a joint team and worked on it for close to three years. The reports list five core technology areas and say the product passed an appraisal organised by the China Machinery Industry Federation. Where it went. The first unit shipped on 18 March 2026 to Unit 5 of the Lufeng nuclear power plant. Units 6 and other HPR1000 units are to follow, and each HPR1000 unit takes three valves of this type. (Source: Northeast News Network, 2026-03-19.)

The design figures the source gives. Design pressure 8.9 MPa, design temperature 316 °C (601 °F), design service life 60 years. (Source: Northeast News Network, 2026-03-19.)

What the developer says it changes. China Industry News states that procurement cost falls by 40% against the imported equivalent and that delivery lead time is compressed; it also states that the maker's core products are now in service on more than one hundred nuclear units under construction or in operation in China. Note on scope. A nuclear safety-class valve with a gas-hydraulic actuator is not one of the five general valve types this site screens. This item is recorded for the high-parameter isolation duty, not as a recommendation, and it is not certification advice.

What the source does not state

The two reports do not state the valve's nominal size, its pressure class designation, its body, seat or packing materials, the appraisal test programme or its acceptance criteria, or the number of units covered by the appraisal.
